About Us

Welcome to Happy Gabby

Happy Gabby is the toy recommendation site we wished existed when we started our parenting journeys. Founded in 2024 by a small group of parents who were frustrated with generic “best of” lists that clearly hadn’t been tested by anyone with actual children, we set out to build something better — a trusted resource where every recommendation is backed by real-world testing, honest opinions, and genuine expertise.

Today, Happy Gabby helps thousands of parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and gift-givers find the perfect toys and presents for kids of every age. From first toys for toddlers to gifts for teenagers, we cover it all.

Our Mission

We believe every child deserves toys that spark joy, ignite creativity, and support healthy development. We also believe that parents deserve honest, trustworthy recommendations — not thinly disguised advertisements.

Our mission is simple: help families find the best toys and gifts through rigorous, hands-on testing and transparent recommendations.

We are committed to:

  • Honesty first — If a product isn’t good, we won’t recommend it, regardless of its popularity or marketing budget.
  • Real-world testing — Every product we recommend has been used by real kids in real homes.
  • Accessibility — We include options across every budget, from $5 stocking stuffers to $150 flagship gifts.
  • Developmental awareness — We consider age-appropriateness, safety, and developmental value alongside fun factor.
  • Transparency — We clearly disclose how we make money and how we choose our recommendations.

How We Test & Review

Our review process is the foundation of everything we publish. Here’s exactly how it works:

Step 1: Research & Selection

We begin by identifying the most popular, most-searched, and most-recommended products in each category. We analyze sales data, parent community discussions, manufacturer claims, and existing review coverage. From a field of 50-100 products per category, we narrow down to 20-30 candidates for hands-on testing.

Step 2: Hands-On Testing

Products are distributed to our team of parent testers, who use them with their own children over a minimum two-week period. We don’t do quick unboxings or first-impression reviews — we test toys in the messy, unpredictable reality of family life. Can it survive being dropped down the stairs? Does the novelty wear off after day two? Do parents want to throw it out the window after hearing the same sound effect 400 times?

Step 3: Evaluation Criteria

Every product is scored across six dimensions:

  • Safety — CPSC/ASTM compliance, material quality, small parts assessment
  • Developmental Value — Motor skills, cognitive development, social skills, creativity
  • Durability — Construction quality, longevity under real-world kid use
  • Engagement — How long and how often kids actually choose to play with it
  • Parent Satisfaction — Noise level, mess factor, storage, value for money
  • Fun Factor — The intangible magic that makes a toy special

Step 4: Writing & Publishing

Only products that score well across all six dimensions make it into our guides. We write detailed, honest assessments that include both pros and cons. If a $15 toy outperforms a $50 toy, we say so. If a popular toy doesn’t live up to the hype, we say that too.

Step 5: Ongoing Updates

We update our guides at least twice per year — in spring (for new releases and summer planning) and in fall (for holiday shopping). Prices are verified monthly. When products are discontinued or significantly changed, we update our recommendations accordingly.

Meet the Team

Sarah Mitchell — Founder & Lead Editor

Sarah is a mom of three (ages 4, 7, and 11) and a former early childhood education teacher. She founded Happy Gabby after spending one too many late nights reading contradictory toy reviews while trying to find a birthday present for her oldest. Her background in child development informs our age-specific recommendations and developmental assessments. Sarah oversees all content and has the final say on every recommendation we publish.

David Chen — Senior Toy Reviewer

David is a dad of two (ages 3 and 8) and a product designer by trade. His professional eye for build quality, materials, and design makes him our go-to reviewer for construction toys, LEGO sets, and ride-on vehicles. David writes our LEGO guide, pedal go kart reviews, and leads our durability testing. If a toy can survive David’s kids, it can survive anything.

Maria Rodriguez — Creative & Craft Specialist

Maria is a mom of two girls (ages 6 and 9) and a former art teacher. She reviews craft kits, creative toys, art supplies, and all things DIY. Maria’s kids serve as chief testers for craft kits and creative toys, and her background in art education helps us evaluate whether creative toys genuinely foster artistic development or just create a mess. She’s the author of our gifts for 7 year old girls guide.

James Walker — Outdoor & Active Play Reviewer

James is a dad of three boys (ages 5, 9, and 13) and a former physical education teacher. If it involves running, riding, throwing, or getting muddy, James is our guy. He leads testing for our outdoor toys guide, sports equipment reviews, and active play recommendations. His boys are enthusiastic (and rough) testers who put every outdoor toy through its paces.

Emily Park — Research & Safety Editor

Emily is a mom of one (age 2) and holds a degree in consumer product safety. She verifies safety certifications, reviews recall databases, and ensures every product we recommend meets or exceeds safety standards. Emily also manages our price tracking and deal monitoring, powering our Black Friday deals coverage and price accuracy across all guides.

Our Standards & Ethics

How We Make Money

Happy Gabby earns revenue through affiliate commissions. When you click a link on our site and make a purchase, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. This is how we fund our testing, pay our team, and keep the site running.

Important: Affiliate relationships never influence our recommendations. We choose which products to recommend first, then add links afterward. We regularly recommend products that have lower commission rates over products with higher rates because the product is simply better. Our credibility depends on honest recommendations — we’d rather earn less money than lose your trust.

What We Don’t Do

  • We don’t accept payment from manufacturers to feature or positively review their products
  • We don’t publish sponsored content disguised as editorial reviews
  • We don’t recommend products we haven’t thoroughly evaluated
  • We don’t inflate ratings or use misleading language to drive clicks
  • We don’t recommend products with known safety issues, regardless of popularity

Editorial Independence

Our editorial team has complete independence in choosing which products to recommend. No advertiser, affiliate partner, or manufacturer has input into our ratings, rankings, or editorial content. Period.

Our Commitment to E-E-A-T

We take Google’s Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness guidelines seriously — not because of SEO, but because they align with our values:

  • Experience — Every reviewer is a parent who uses these products with their own children. Our reviews are based on real-world, hands-on experience.
  • Expertise — Our team includes former educators, a product designer, and a consumer safety specialist. We bring professional knowledge to our evaluations.
  • Authoritativeness — We’ve reviewed hundreds of products across dozens of categories. Our depth of coverage and consistency of quality have made us a trusted resource in the parenting community.
  • Trustworthiness — We are transparent about our business model, our review process, and our editorial standards. We disclose affiliate relationships on every page. We correct errors promptly.
